'08 Barrel firing

Barrel firing is a process using a 55 gallon drum, sawdust,

pots, chemicals, and other combustible materials to create a decorative effect

on the surface of a pot.  Many pots are painted with terra sigillata before being bisqued,

to achieve a shiny, smooth surface.  None of these pots are intended for use with food/water.

**Note:  Wikipedia article emphasises red ware, but white is more commonly used today, especially

in pit/barrel firing.

Following are images from my Ceramics 07/08 class:

More pots on top of pots! Fire in the hole!
